The central government has recently revealed that 1,35,784 posts are vacant in the three forces. While the maximum number of 1,16,464 posts are vacant in the Army, there are 13,537 vacancies in the Navy and 5,723 vacancies in the Air Force. Union Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt revealed that the annual average of replacements in the Army, Navy, and Airforce is 60 thousand, 5332, and 5723 respectively. He gave a written reply to the question raised in the Rajya Sabha.

Bhatt explained the shortage of personnel in all three forces, including officer and non-officer rank personnel. The army is said to have a shortfall of 1,16,464 personnel as of January 1 compared to the official figure. As of January 2020, there are 64,482 vacancies in the army. On the other hand, 13,597 posts are vacant in the Navy as of May this year.

As of July 1, there are 5,723 vacancies in the Air Force (Military job vacancy alert). Meanwhile, it is known that the central government has recently announced a new recruitment scheme called ‘Agnipath’. Under this, the tri-forces will recruit 46 thousand firemen this year. The recruitment process has already started.
